Have you ever wanted to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, or simply see a new place? If you answered yes to any of those questions it is time you consider studying abroad. Traveling changes one’s whole outlook on life and students who study abroad have a huge advantage when it come’s to finding their first job. The College of Business offers many programs around the globe for students to take advantage of. Studying abroad may not be as out of reach as one may think. Studying abroad can easily become a reality.
Advertising and Integrated Marketing major Adrienne McCormick took advantage of Ferris State’s study abroad program last summer. McCormick studied business 3,962 miles away at Hogeschool Utrecht in the Netherlands. McCormick is currently a senior in the College of Business. During her time abroad she was able to take two classes: European Business Skills and Corporate Branding Design. Her classes took weekly field trips to places around Holland. She even had the opportunity to spend a week in Italy for her course.
“I took a trip that gave me some of the most significant lessons of my life. Yes, I took courses that were pertinent to my interests and applicable to my major. Yes, I earned scholarship money from the University to fund my trip. However, those reasons to go abroad only scratch the surface. I gained my value from more than academics and running around the streets of Amsterdam and Harlem,” said McCormick of her experience abroad.
Hogeschool Utrecht is one Ferris State’s partner schools around the globe. Adrienne was able to take several business credits at Utrecht for Ferris State tuition. Adrienne advises students who are interested in studying abroad to make plans early and look for scholarships right away. McCormick earned $2,000 to cover her tuition with the help of College of Business scholarships and a program called MyPlace offered at the International Office of Education. McCormick gained patience, confidence, and communication skills that are going to help her in her career.
