Business Bulldogs Abroad: Adrienne McCormick and The Netherlands

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

Seventy-three percent of employers agree that education abroad is important when evaluating resumes, and only three percent of students study abroad in college. The students that choose to study abroad have a huge competitive advantage over their peers when applying for jobs and internships. Most students rule out study abroad as an option based on the sticker price, but Ferris State University is hard at work to make studying abroad a realistic option for every student.

Adrienne McCormick, College of Business senior, had the experience of a lifetime last summer when she studied abroad in The Netherlands. She is studying Advertising/Integrated Marketing Techniques at Ferris State, but she was able to take several of her classes across the globe.

AdrienneAbroadAdrienne studied at Hogeschool Utrech, one of Ferris State’s many partner universities around the world. She spent three weeks in the Netherlands studying European Business Skills and Corporate Branding Design. She took a “field trip” to Milan, Italy with one of her courses and visited Germany for fun.

“I gained patience, confidence, and communication skills that are going to help me both in my work in the office and in my future career,” said Adrienne about her experience abroad.

Adrienne’s Advice:“My advice would be to get started on making plans and working towards scholarships as soon as possible! I earned $2,000 towards my trip in scholarships which totally paid for my tuition.”

Ferris State University has several other exchange programs across the globe including Dankook University in South Korea and Yasar University in Turkey

There are many scholarships available for COB students to make study abroad accessible for all students. For example, The Gilman scholarship awards $1,000 to a business major with plans to study abroad.

Studying abroad doesn’t have to be a distant dream; it can be a reality. For more information or to get started on your application visit ferris.edu/studyabroad.
